Sony releases numerous firmware updates for its PS3 console, most of the have little or no consequence to normal user. They are primarily meant to block the attempts to hack the system. There are some updates, that truly add value of the all-purpose console. If the rumors are to be believed the next version 3.60 of the firmware will enable "Online Saving" on the console
As the blog entry in Kotaku states, some developers have bee informed by Sony of this feature to save information on the cloud from PS3. This means the game saves and progress made is no longer restricted to the physical drive on the device, instead can be stored on the cloud. This means that if needed, we can continue the game theoretically from any device that has access to the PlayStation network.
This feature is definitely good one and inline with the online transition that is being planned by the PlayStation platform. The feature may be limited to PlayStation Plus Subscribers, which I am already a member of. This service gives the PS3 gamers, free games every month like WipeOut HD, PS3 Minis and early access to lot of upcoming games. This feature for the plus subscribers will definitely be a bonus for the early adopters and may even attract more hard core gamers to avail this feature.
This is still a rumor, but hope it will soon be realized in the coming weeks. All we need next is a fully capable Webkit browser to be supported in PS3.
