News: Android 3.0 Honeycomb Preview SDK released to Developers

Google announced the availability of the preview for their upcoming Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) SDK. This gives developers early access to Honeycomb and lets them preview Android SDK (not final). This means that as consumers, we get loaded with what is in store for us in the upcoming Honeycomb.

Some of the major elements listed by Android Police in the blog is

  • New "holographic" UI
  • Bottom bar for global status and notification (like System Tray)
  • Action bar for in-application controls (like Taskbar)
  • Revamped "recent apps" menu (like Start menu)
  • New keyboard
  • Improved text selection / copy / paste
  • Streamlined USB transfer
  • Completely update basic apps liek Gmail, Calendar, Browser, Gallery and Contacts.
  • Customizable Home Screens
The Honeycomb version brings a completely new UI framework for developers to bring apps specifically for tablet and with the ability to run with widgets. The OS also supports 2D and 3D hardware accelerator, not just for the overall interface, but also for the web browser.

Overall the preview is quite impressive and we just need some hardware to host this OS now and Motorola please make Xoom cheaper

Google has also gone ahead and showcased some of the user interface elements like

Camera App

Widgets

Revamped Gmail
