News: Android vulnerability still exists in Gingerbread (2.3)

Android has been steaming ahead in terms of its popularity and adoption. The platform is good, open and customizable, but definitely has some flaws too. Researcher from North Carolina State University claims that the security vulnerability that was thought to be fixed in Android Gingerbread (2.3) still is existing in the latest version

The security vulnerability gives attackers access to users personal information. The bug allows malicious websites to access and upload the contents from the users microSD card to a remote server. This is the same flaw that was identified in the previous releases of Android and had seemed to be fixed in the Gingerbread version, but it looks like the fix made can be bypassed easily.

Google is said to be working on a fix for the problem, but not sure when it is likely to hit the consumers. In any case, there has not been many phones adopting Gingerbread yet, so the fix needs to be made available on different releases of Android that is popular across different vendors and carriers.

Lets hope Google is working on a fix across all levels and not just Gingerbread. As always with any online activity in Computers and Smartphones, please refrain from clicking on suspicious links and attachments.
