News: Google goes live with its Art Project

In recent times there has been numerous Google Doodles with art works and the source of all those inspirations finally got revealed today. Google has gone live with its art project, which looks more like Google Earth and Street View coming together for museums and art works in them

You can access this at Google Art Project and it allows your to see some great art work or go around some museums using the all familiar street view technology. Using this project users can explore museums from around the world and discover the artwork exhibits at a close level and at a digital zoom level that can't be visualized even in person. You can choose from the list of museums that are currently available and decide to either explore the museum as if you were walking inside it or check artwork explicitly.

The project has been launched with initial set of museums and the museums have decided which gallery and which artwork to share in each of them. Even the detailed information on each of the exhibit is controlled by the museum and the copyright for the images. In some cases, even the street view imagery around the museum has been deliberately blurred based on the requirements by the museum.

This is definitely a nice initiative, which can make lot of people interested in art. For people who dread the thought of going to museum, this may be an eye opener. I was a person like that till I got the chance to see the art exhibits in Louvre museum. I don't know anything about art, but I spent hours in the museum and dont mind going again.

If more museums can collaborate to get more participation and exhibits listed in this project, then it will act as digital museum for the beautiful artwork that are ageless. We may even have trigger some creative spark in some people with this project.
