When Smartphone was introduced, the adoption from Enterprise was considered a serious concern. There have been talks to integrate virtualization and data encryption on these devices. Looks like Google has taken the first steps towards that with Honeycomb
In the post Honeycomb session, the folks from Engadget got some hands on time with Motorola Xoom and Honeycomb and buried within the device was the option to Encrypt the data on the device. As the screenshot suggests on Engadget blog, the setting encrypts the Accounts, Settings, Downloaded Applications and the related data, media and other files. The encryption is further locked with a PIN, which is required each time the device is powered on to decrypt the information.
Once encrypted the data cannot be decrypted without doing a factory reset. The Encryption process is likely to take a hour for the initial period, but this is something that Enterprise may force the users to enable to have data security.
If Google also enables Cloud backups of the Encrypted data, so that I can get to the same starting point on any device (like Chrome OS), then it will definitely be a winner
