The portable gaming industry has changed significantly in the last few years and I had tried to capture the same in my blog entry earlier. Sony had a good place in the portable gaming segment with PSP, but now has to switch strategy to stay in this market. While they are announcing PSP 2 later today, they are also developing PSP Phone called Xperia Play.
The Xperia Play is combines the Smartphone capability, powered by Android to PSP platform in a convenient form factor. The initial releases about the device was vague, but Engadget has posted a detailed hands-on preview video and feedback about the device.
The device definitely looks impressive and it will be interesting to see how the PSP platform is integrated in this phone. PSP is known for hardcore gaming, so it needs to be seen how it handles the casual game segments and how the PlatStation Store is used in this process.
