News: Desktop Notification comes to Gmail and Chrome users

Desktop Notifications come in handy when you are on the look out for communicating with someone or if you are waiting for some important mail. This feature had been limited to desktop clients mostly and was not available to web pages and web applications till now and Google is all set to change it.



If you are using Chrome and GMail, then you are in luck. Google has launched the ability to have Desktop notification for emails and chat messages. The default behavior disabled and you can control the notification of Chat and Mail individually. If you have configured to use Priority Inbox of Google, to classify some mails as important, then you can limit the notification to important mails only.

To enable this behavior, click on Settings from your GMail window in Chrome and look for the Desktop Notification section to configure it the way you want it.

For users who do not use Chrome yet, you have to wait as they are working on making this available in general for Web platform.
