It has been sometime since we heard anything from the Kindle camp. Barnes and Noble had made frequent announcements with Nook, Nook Color and Apps and finally Kindle seems to be showing some action on its side. The owners of Kindle and Kindle 3G can get an early preview of the new features in the next software update or just feel happy about it by reading it here.
The next software update and some of its new features are detailed in the Amazon Blog.
Public Notes: If you are collaborating with your friends or just want to share your views on the book or article that you are reading, then you can opt-in for the ability to make your notes and highlights to be seen by others. This is a nice way to share some sections that interests your or comment on the author taken on some items and see the community response for the same. It will be more useful when you have group of people sharing similar information. The best thing will be to have this across all eReaders, but we cannot have everything perfect.
Real Page Numbers: Because of the flexible font, line spacing and preferences the page numbers that get displayed on the eBooks do not always match the real books. To solve this problem Kindle will have real page numbers that match the print edition of the book. This feature is not specific to Kindle devices, but will be rolled out to all Kindle applications across platforms.
Before You Go: This feature will give the ability for the Kindle readers to rate, review and share a message about the book on Social Network. This is likely to be used by Amazon to give recommendations for your next purchase.
New Newspaper and Magazine Layout: The layout for Newspaper and Magazines are modified and claimed to be of improved layout.
If you are interested in getting an early preview of these features, then you can manually download the update from here. If don't want to take the chance, then you can wait for OTA update once the software reaches the golden level.
