Google has multiple ways for getting the latest updates that it constantly makes for its Chrome browser. The Stable version of the browser has been updated to Version 9, with significant updates.
Google has been jumping on the version numbers quite often and it is currently a competition between Chrome and Android to see which gets updated faster. Chrome has multiple channels for users to experience the new updates that keep coming in.
Stable: This is the tried and tested version of Chrome or the golden standard of the browser. This is the channel for which the update has been released now with significant features and enhancements
Beta: This is the pre-release version of the browser which is more like the Beta of any software that we go through. This is also like the end user preview that we get for many applications. It may have some issues and are released to the eager developer community to receive feedback and identify issues ahead of time
Developer: This is a developer review of the browser, which is primarily meant for developed feedback and issue identification. This again is meant for developers to test the specific enhancements and features that are added to the browser.
Canary: This is the hardcore developer mode, which gets updated very often and is said to be lot unstable. You can have this and any of the above channels in parallel. So if you want to try this out, you can definitely do so without affecting the Stable or Beta channel of the browser.

The enhancements that are coming in the Version 9 of the stable version are Speed, Chrome Instant - that allows you to get a quick preview of the search results from the address bar, Chrome Webstore - the place to get web apps. The noted enhancement is the WebGL support, which enables hardware accelerated 3D graphics for the browser.
