News: HP announces TouchPad, releasing this Summer

In one of the most anticipated announcement in recent times, HP has announced the TouchPad - webOS table that is scheduled to be launched this summer. This is the first major announcement from HP, since acquiring Palm. webOS 3.0 is the next major evolution of the platform introduced by Palm and is pushed heavily on all the devices announced by HP today.

webOS powered the Palm Pre had good features and platform capability, but the underpowered devices did not do justice to the platform. This iteration from HP seems to have a good combination of hardware and software and promises to be good, if the pricing is defined right.

TouchPad (official name) tablet will be running webOS 3.0, which was the first platform to showcase multi-tasking and still boasts "true multitasking" capability, instant-on, 9.7 inch display, dual core Snapdragon CPU, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Compass and 16 / 32 GB of internal storage. The device also supports 1.3 MP front facing camera for video calling, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth and Stereo speakers.

The platform also supports Skype calling, Kindle store, Calendar / Email integration, VPN support, Wireless printing, Quickoffice, Dropbox and Google Docs. The device can communicate seamless between other webOS 3.0 devices like the Veer or HP Pre 3 phone that was announced today.

The initial impressions of the software is definitely good and with the powerful hardware specification, this should definitely be considered as a likely competitor for iPad and Xoom. Lets hope they can make this work for webOS and give it the recognition it deserves
