It is known that Google has been naming different version of Android in the alphabetical order of desserts. Given that order the next version of Android should start with "I". The names being speculated are Ice Cream or Ice Cream Sandwich. Apart from naming, the content of the platform is lot more interesting
In his speech at Mobile World Congress (MWC), Eric Schmidt has confirmed that the next version of Android will start with I and more importantly has revealed that the next version will be a combination of Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Gingerbread has been a mobile platform which is ported on some Laptops, while Honeycomb has been primarily a laptop platform for now. It was not clear how Honeycomb will relate to mobile and the evolution of Android in general.
If the next version of Android combines both capabilities and leverages the Fragments UI of Honeycomb to bridge phone / tablet display, then we could see the two branches coming together again. This will also mean the job for developers will become easier, if they develop within the guidelines of Android.
Will be on the look for for more info about this next version of Android.
