News: Google introduces 2-Step Verification for Google Accounts

Spam and Hacks are very much part of online activity these days. We need to be very careful with our online presence and have strong password algorithms to prevent the common mail hacks that sends weird messages from your Email to everyone in your contact list. Luckily my Google account has been spared of this nasty stuff and they be getting some additional protection for opt-in users.

Since the online services from Google could reveal lot of data about us, Google is launching advanced sign-in security for your Google account. Google has announced and launched 2-Step Verification process for its user base and it is available as an Opt-In feature. The option will be made fully available to all users gradually in the coming days. The Opt-In link can be access from the Google Accounts Settings page

This process once available will take about 15 minutes to enroll with a user friendly guided navigation. The process includes setting up a backup phone and a backup code, if you miss access to your primary phone. Once this enrollment is done, your login process will include an additional step that prompts for a code. Once the password is entered, Google will call the mobile or SMS the code or even allow the users to generate the code using the mobile device. Only when the password and the generated code matches, the access to the account will be granted.

It does seem a lot for just accessing my mail, but if I am going to store confidential information in there, then it is better to be safe than sorry. This approach from Google extends some of the image verification step and also the Bluetooth pairing of devices to use them for Account sign-in.

  2. It is great that Google is now providing optional additional security. Though I question how many people will actually use it! While I totally support additional security like this, I agree this it seems to be just a little overly complicated. While I tend not to store very personal details in my e-mail, in some cases I do, and I will appreciate this second level of security.

Thanks for letting us know about it!

more like youve painted a reasonably picture over a difficulty that you simply recognize nothing concerning I don’t want to sound mean, here.
but do you really suppose that you can escape with adding some pretty pictures and not really say anything?
