News: Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Honeycomb tablet

It is the season for announcing tablets and this year it is all about Android. After Motorola - XOOM and LG - G-Pad, Samsung has officially announced their next generation of Galaxy Tab today.  This device will be officially called as Galaxy Tab 10.1 and is loaded with both hardware and software goodness.

The 10.1 inch tablet from Samsung will run Android Honeycomb and is powered by dual-core Tegra 2 processor, like all other Android tablets that are announced. It will be available in 16GB or 32 GB capacity and has a 2 MP front facing camera and 8 MP camera on the back. It can support HSPA+ network (heading to ATT?) and has 1280x800 TFT display. From the Engadget video on the device and their initial impressions, this device is definitely nicely built and is very light.

The interesting news is that this device will not have any custom skin from Samsung, so this be a Google experience device with direct access to Honeycomb. This means that customers can get direct access to Google Market for Android apps and more importantly any upgrades on Honeycomb can reach the device without much delay. Most of the tablets announced with Honeycomb seem to share similar specifications and this could be a move from Google to promote uniform user experience across its platform.

While the specification and capability of the device is all promising, now all we have to look forward to is the pricing from Samsung. If they have learnt anything from the 7 inch Galaxy Tab, they will not be quoting a high price on this one. With Motorola charing almost $800 for its device, anything less than that from Samsung is likely to attract consumers, but around $500 is going to make lot more people to consider this.
