Motorola announced the launch of its Android tablet (Motorola Xoom) running version 3.0 of the software called HoneyComb. It is said to be the reference hardware of this version of the OS, just like Nexus One and Nexus Two and has lot of features that could finally rival iPad.
Engadget has posted couple of articles on its site to show some internal BestBuy documents, which never remains internal. These documents mention the release date of Xoom to be Feb 17th, which is not a surprise as the launch date was announced to be anywhere in Q1. The surprising part of this announcement is the price point of $800.
For a device that is being launched more than 1 year after the iPad and to compete the 80% market share of iPad, this needs to be competitively priced to lure customers to buy it. Instead the asking price is quite steep in a market, where every other month a new device comes out out-dating the first.
I was looking forward to this device to see Honeycomb, looks like I need to start looking elsewhere for it. One of the commercials of Motorola was to show the different tablets in museum to show the evolution of tablet. This one might remain there, if they really charged this price. Get real Motorola and make it competitive.

Is this the final build of honeycomb or "In Works" one??
ReplyDeleteThis should be the final version on Honeycomb, which means we should have an announcement from Google before this date.
