Gadget: iPhone coming to Verizon this Tuesday?

Ever since Apple launched iPhone in 2007, it has been exclusive with AT&T and it has proved to be both good and bad for AT&T. While the iPhone brought in lot of customers initially, it also clogged the bandwidth and forced AT&T to improve their network in some major cities.

Verizon has been rumored to get the iPhone for a while, but that means that the networking module of iPhone had to be changed to CDMA to get it working on Verizon. Looks like Verizon is holding a press meet in New York on Jan 11, 2011, right after all its announcements in CES 2011. Since Apple was the only major company missing from CES (as usual), this announcement right after CES from Verizon definitely points towards Apple iPhone.

In all likelihood, this announcement may just announce iPhone 4 on Verizon. If this meeting were for iPhone 5, then Apple and Steve Jobs will definitely not allow sharing of the spot light and move out of their Cupertino office. It has been rumored that Steve Jobs may also be participating in this announcement in NY though.

While iPhone was a major entry into AT&T when it launched, it is not so in the case of Verizon. Verizon just launched phones from different vendors like Motorola with 4G LTE capability. In all likelihood iPhone will be 4G LTE capable, but may not mean the same in Verizon. It will definitely be a good thing for Apple, as this will mean that they can sell more devices across carriers and not just get locked down with AT&T.

This Tuesday will confirm what the announcement is and what is in store for the Verizon customers. Let is be the iPhone and end all the speculation and rumors.
