Qualcomm (QCOM) is acquiring Atheros Communications (ATHR) for $3.1 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first half of the year. Qualcomm is already a major player in the Chipset industry and with the recent trend of Mobile and Tablet war, this acquisition is likely to strengthen the product portfolio and value of Qualcomm significantly. Atheros is a leading player in Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth chipsets.
This deal from Qualcomm is coming right after its sale of Flo TV airwave rights to AT&T, which is likely to give AT&T its entry into the 4G market.
