Microsoft wants to make it big in cloud computing. Though the announcements from Microsoft towards Cloud Computing came in late, it has pushed its weight around this initiative heavily since then. The next generation of Office 365 is all about the cloud. Some of the demonstrations from Office Live also showed the power of cloud backups, live sync and rich formatting that is still missing in Google Docs.
We can have a separate post completely dedicated for the Cloud strategy from Microsoft and Google and this post is to promote the free iOS application from Microsoft for one of its Office applications called OneNote. I started using this application in my laptop 2 years ago and have been a heavy user of this application since then.
The Desktop version of this application allows the users to take notes, organize them into books, embed rich content into them and also collaborate using the same. The ease of use with this tool to take screenshots and capture content is really good. When the iOS was launched, I was definitely looking forward to syncing with this tool, but it was not available for free. So I had to switch to another great utility that does similar jobs and that is Evernote.
Now Microsoft in order to promote its cloud computing prowess and get more user base for itself, is giving the OneNote iPhone app (iOS) app, free for a limited time. It allows the users to make a color-coded, organized way of taking notes with rich content. It also provides integration with Windows Live SkyDrive that provides 25GB of free space for online storage and file sharing.
This is one powerful utility that is definitely worth downloading, especially when it is free.
