Gadget: Nook Color hacks keep coming, over-clocked this time...

NOOKcolor eBook TabletNook Color is a great eReader from Barnes and Noble. The device has lot of things going right for it from the hardware specification, widely popular Android platform and finally the highly tempting price point.

While the device was primarily promoted as an eReader device, the specification and the capability of the device definitely screamed table to all the consumers. This 7 inch eReader was launched right along with Samsung Galaxy Tab for less than half the price. The device has been locked down with Android 2.1, but is likely to get 2.2 soon with Nook Apps support.

The Android community definitely have been active with this device and have already rooted it, loaded Ubuntu on it and even made side loading of apps possible to load other apps like the all time favorite Angry Birds. If a device can run Angry Birds, it is officially useful these days, so Nook Color joined the list finally with the hacks.

In the latest attempt of hacks, the device has been over-clocked from the specified 800MHz to 1GHz and that too at a lower voltage, thus increasing the battery life of the device. While running at 1GHz seems to make the device unstable, it is claimed to be stable at 950 MHz.
