News: Motorola Xoom Pricing and Updates

The details about Motorola's XOOM tablet running Android 3.0, in a dual-core configuration has been discussed in all the technical blogs and beaten to death. With the launch coming up, there are additional pricing information surfacing now.

One of the appalling news about XOOM tablet was its off-contract pricing of $800, which is way above the current iPad pricing. Verizon has now announced that the device will $600 on a 2 year contract, with a minimum data plan of $20 for 1 GB per month. This initial number of $600 sounds lot better than the earlier price, but the cumulative cost including the data plan is north of $1000. This is high when considering that this is not your primary device.

There have been other news about XOOM that the initial launch of the device will not support Flash, but will get an upgrade in "Spring", which will make it compatible with Flash 10.2. Hope this is not like one of those updates, which are promised, but never realized .This will also mean that the adoption of the device may be slow to begin with. The device from Verizon should still be getting a free LTE upgrade (as announced) when the network is ready for it, until then it will be 3G ready.

All said and done, atleast there will be an official Android tablet that can finally compete iPad.
