While we can have an entire article on Sudoku, its variations and benefits, this quick post is to report on what the big G (Google) has done with Sudoku.
Google introduced its labs product called Google Goggles with Android phones and then launched it in iOS also with the Google Mobile application. This application allows the users to take a picture of any object of interest and it will scan the image to fetch the relevant objects in the image. It can scan barcodes, recognize text and identify with visual patterns to match them with famous locations. It has been useful for quick scan and search and is just another way of doing search.
This same application has been extended to scan the Sudoku puzzle, from papers, magazines or online sites and the application recognizes that it is a Sudoku puzzle and solves it for you. This video from the official Google blog shows this application in action and when we put this test with the application in iPhone, it could solve the Hardest level of Sudoku puzzle from a website in seconds. It is just for the fun factor, but shows the power of technology and the computing power behind the sceneds. I was really impressed with the video and all the more impressed at the end of trying it live. Now I have a way to validate those Sudoku that come on paper or magazines quickly.
